Obituary of Barry Mogil
Barry M. Mogil 86 of St. Petersburg passed away September 12, 2016. Barry was the former director of Emergency Communications/911 for Pinellas County and a team leader for the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services.
Barry was a pioneer in the EMS industry. He started his career driving ambulances in 1949. Over a period of several years, he worked different jobs including home diaper delivery, insurance, sales, reserve police, Red Cross and finally in 1971 began dispatching for Florida Ambulance. As time progressed, Barry became the General Manager of Florida Ambulance and from there his career blossomed. Not only did he manage the ambulance company, he was a mentor, teacher, guidance counselor, author, disciplinarian and an advisor for CASS which accredits Ambulance companies throughout the United States. Barry won numerous lifetime achievement awards, honorary awards and was well respected throughout the community and across the country.
Barry loved golf and had a hole in one in 1968. He taught his sons and grandsons to play the game he loved so much. He loved the Florida Gators and was so proud of his grandchildren who are currently attending as well as his oldest being alum. He was an avid Tampa Bay Bucs fan and actually administered oxygen to the team for 21 years. Barry was one of the creators of B.E.T. in the Pinellas County School Systems teaching Basic Emergency Training.
Not only did Barry teach his children the art of loving others unconditionally, he taught them honesty, respect and devotion to each other.
He was instrumental in many people's lives both professionally and personally. Barry's devotion to public service in Pinellas County will be remembered for many years to come. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciately by the family!
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley; son Steve (Deborah); daughters Deb Mogil (Taylor Davis) and Cheri Chase; and grandchildren; Mark Mogil, Michelle Mogil, Nicholas Chase and Andrew Chase. He was predeceased by son Michael Mogil and son-in-law John Chase.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, Sept. 16, 2016 at Temple B’nai Israel, 1685 S. Belcher Rd., Clearwater. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Park, Largo.
