Obituary of Carl E. Meisner

MEISNER, DR. CARL E. 82 of St Petersburg, died 30 January 2006 under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast at Palms of Pasadena Hospital. He was born in Terre Haute, Indiana and came here in 1964 from Fort Wayne. In Florida, he was a noted psychotherapist in private practice as a licensed marriage and family therapist after a distinguished public service career in Tallahassee and St Petersburg culminating as Executive Director for the Juvenile Welfare Board of Pinellas County. He held academic degrees from Indiana State University, Florida State University, and Northern Utah University. He was a life member of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists; a Charter Clinical Fellow of the American Academy of Clinical Sexologists; and a clinical member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapists. During World War II, he served in the US Army Air Forces and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. His service on numerous community leadership committees and advisory boards included the Pinellas County Commission Social Allocations Committee; United Way of Pinellas County Planning Committee; Chairman of District V Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services Allocations Committee; and as Vice President, Director, and Trustee of the Board of Directors of Directions for Mental Health. He was a charter member of the Treasure Island Tennis and Yacht Club, a former member of the Seminole Country Club and the Bucketeers Yacht Club. He was a lifelong basketball fan and also enjoyed tennis, golf, and travel. Dr Meisner is survived by his wife Dianne (nee Landt), son Chris Varner of Denver Colorado, daughters Janet Hinson of High Springs, Elizabeth Kelly of Melbourne, Barbara Forinash of Sioux Falls SD, Cynthia Paulson of Tallahassee, Debbie Rivenburg of Tallahassee, Cathy Galfas of Atlanta GA, and step children Rick O'Callaghan of St Petersburg, Dr Kevin O'Callaghan of Seminole, Dr Patrick O'Callaghan of St Petersburg, Kimberly Blumer of St Petersburg, and Erin Graves of Auburndale; thirteen grandchildren: Christopher, Scott, Kevin, Thomas, Heather, Lisa, Naren, Sara, Jesse, Dustin, Lauren, Alex, and Iris and seven great grandchildren: Caitlin, Christen, Bradley, Jordan, Kamryn, Brayden, and Noah. David C. Gross Funeral Home, St Petersburg is serving the family. Memorial Service will be 11 AM on Friday (2/10/06) at David C. Gross Central Avenue Chapel, with Rev. Charles Engelhardt, officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends after the service (appx 12:15PM) at the Treasure Island Tennis and Yacht Club.
