Obituary of Sam Cleage Feild

Sam Cleage Feild, Jr., 80, of Seminole, passed away Tuesday morning, December 25, after a valiant attempt to recover from a recent stroke. He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, Chalene Freudenberg Feild, daughter Jacki Lynn Feild, daughter Charon Feild Aurand and her husband Kim (and his family), grandson Cary Aurand, grandson Lt. Corey Aurand and his wife Anelis (and her family), and his first great-grandchild, to be born in June; his brothers Bill and Dan Feild, sister Jacqueline King, half-brother Jack Feild, their wives and children, and step-mother Caroline Feild; his cousins Carolyn, David, Lewis and Barbara Raden (and their wives and children). He is also survived by family friends and professional colleagues too numerous too list, for whom he had great affection and admiration. Private cremation will be followed by a memorial service on Friday, January 11, 3 p.m., at Temple B'nai Israel, 1685 South Belcher Road, Clearwater, Florida 33764-6561, telephone number 727-531-5829. He served in the U. S. Navy, stationed in the Pacific, at the close of World War II. He married Chalene in 1947 and they lived with daughters, Jacki and Charon, born in 1948 and 1951, in Northern Virginia until transferring to Florida in 1981. He retired in 1987 and recently moved with Chalene to Seminole to live with Charon and Kim. Sam received his education at Capitol Radio Engineering Institute, George Washington University and the University of Virginia. He was employed for forty years by Melpar in Falls Church, VA (Research & Development Engineer, Project Engineer, & Laboratory Manager) and Memcor of Tampa, FL (Engineering Manager & Director of Engineering)a�"both parts of the corporation now known as Raytheon. He was the owner, developer and CEO of a multiple-outlet retail corporation, with six Merle Norman Cosmetics Studios in two states. During his retirement in Florida (1987 to present), he had his own woodworking business and was employed in the finance department at Friends of the Deaf Service Center, Inc. Sam's associations included membership in National Capitol Astronomers; IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.); SPEBSQSA (Barbershop Harmony Society); Fairfax (VA) and Countryside (FL) Country Clubs; and Shillelaghs (traveling society). He served on the Board of Directors of Rain Tree Village Condominium Association and was a volunteer for the Pinellas County Schools. Sam traveled with his wife, family and friends to visit destinations around the globe, studying many languages in preparations for these adventures. He developed expertise in a number of hobbies, including astronomy, photography, sailing, golf, woodworking, barbershop singing, writing, horticulture, furniture making and publishing. He was passionate about education, and was a life-long student with special interest in technology, mathematics, science and the arts. Sam was a person of great integrity who kept his commitments and cared genuinely about his fellow man. He valued hard work, honesty, and personal responsibility, yet he always had a joke and a smile to share. He was a passionate individual with a wide variety of interests and friends in all walks of lifea�"a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son, cousin and friend who left behind a legacy that will long endure.
