Daddy: Thank you for my legacy of love and honor. Thank you for bringing our famiy so close always. Thank you for being such a great husband and father, grandfather and greatgrandfather, brother and friend to all. I am really going to miss you. I come here just to look at your picture and the outpouring of love from others; what a difference you made in so many lives. As Ted Campbell said, you so illustrated it is what fills the dash between the years, not the years, that is important. You knew how to fill that space. You have left a hole that can never be refilled. We all love you so. Thank you David and family and staff for your kindness and help. Love, from the Feilds.

Dear Chalene, Jacki, Charon, Kim, Corey, and Cary, I was looking for the words from Lord Alfred Tennyson's poem, "Crossing the Bar" ,(which Charon helped me choose for my mother's memorial service) when I came across this picture. I immediately thought of Sam: how he loved the thrill and challenge of sailing! Sam/Dad/Gramps lived life to the fullest! He was an intelligent, talented, and witty man. He did what made him happy and he loved his family. We'll honor his life tomorrow and cherish his memory always. Our love to all of you, Jennifer, Ron, Lauren, and Brendan

Chalene and Charon -- I was very sad to hear that Sam had passed away over the holidays. He and I share a background of working at Melpar (which became E-Systems, and now Raytheon). For the last year or so he has kindly been helping me with information about Melpar projects for a site history initiative I'm leading. Chalene, Charon, Jackie, Kim & Family: My heart is saddened but I am also relieved that Sam is no longer suffering. I smile everytime I think of Sam and how much we shared. His sharp wit and his ability to share profound depth of thinking. I chuckle at his politcal incorrectness...we were kindred spirits. I know that you will miss him because he enriched all of our lives. I loved the times Sam and I would be sharing our thoughts and Charon, you would roll your eyes and have to excuse yourself. I chortle at his bumper stickers which expressed his total respect for Corporate America SMILE! Yes, Sam left an impression on all those he knew, that deligthful and cantankerous guy that we all loved. We will miss him greatly.

It's hard to explain, but the one remarkable feeling I got every time I spoke with Sam Feild was that he radiated intelligence. I felt he had this aura about him, this great intellect, and I could just feel it. And yet it was coming from a man with a smiling face and always a kind and gentle word. I have met many other intelligent people, of course, but I have never experienced this "aura" with anyone else. After reading his obituary and seeing the scope of his accomplishments and interests, it seems almost logical to me now. The only thing that really surprised me was that he was in a barbershop quartet. But then I wonder why I was surpriseda"why WOULDN'T he be in a barbershop quartet! Thank you, Charon, for sharing your wonderful father with us. He was truly a remarkable man who had the best of both worldsa"a brilliant mind and loving heart. I feel honored and privileged to have spent time with him. My love and sympathy to all of you, Barbara
