Obituary of Louis L. Rosen

Louis L. Rosen 94 of St. Petersburg passed away Monday, May 19, 2008 at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Cleveland OH, Lou came here in 1977 from Oak Park MI. A graduate of Ohio State University, Lou became an educator who taught in the Detroit School System for 35 years. He retired from Cass Technical High School, where he was a supervising teacher of Social Studies. For 15 summers, he worked as a section head at Camp Tamakwa in Algonquin Park, Ontario. Locally, Lou was a member of Congregation B'nai Israel of St. Petersburg, where he served as Vice-President, was a board member and served on the scholarship, adult studies & Ritual committees. In 1994, Lou received the "Man of the Year" award from the CBI Mitzvah Men's Club. He served for more than ten years on the Board of Directors of the Jewish Federation of Pinellas County, where he coordinated the "Speakers Bureau". In 1996, he received the Federations Yitzhak Rabin award for excellence in teaching recognizing his twenty years as a volunteer teacher for adult literacy in Hebrew. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 63 years Lillian, loving daughter Janis Wohl, G-d daughter Ariel Epstein Dickson, sister-in-law Betty Freedman, loving family of 15 nieces and nephews; 19 great- nieces and nephews and 15 great-great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1PM Thursday, May 22, 2008 at Congregation B'nai Israel, 300 58th Street North. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Park, Largo.
