Obituary of Steven Jay Robin

Steven Jay Robin 62 of Gulfport, long-time Bay area resident, succumbed to cancer on July 29, 2008. He was graduate of H.B. Plant High School in Tampa and the University of Maryland, B.S. in Accounting. He is survived by his brothers, Sherwin P. Robin of Savannah, GA and Stewart Robin of Fort Lauderdale, FL, his faithful black lab, Hunter, his loves Wendy Yoder and Bama Graham, his breakfast buddies and many friends in the Bay area. He was predeceased by his parents, Sidney M. Robin and Shirley Spivack Robin of Boca Raton. Steven served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Pueblo. He and his crewman were captured and held as prisoners of war by North Korea for nearly a year. He was awarded two Purple Hearts, the Navy Commendation Medal, Prisoner of War medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon. After his discharge from the Navy, Steve worked for the Dept. of the Army. He graduated from the U.S. Army Defense Ammunition Center and School and was responsible to ensure compliance with Federal Regulations for sophisticated weaponry. After Steve's retirement he remained active in the community volunteering for the Pinellas County Guardian Ad Litem Program representing the interests of children and in aiding and counseling disabled veterans. He was an avid fisherman. He has recently qualified for a historic auto racing license and was actively restoring a racing Porsche with friends to pursue his latest hobby. Remembrances please to the American Cancer Society. Funeral services will be 2PM Wednesday, July 30, 2008 in the David C. Gross Funeral Home Chapel.
