Obituary of John Raymond Chafin

On Wednesday,  September 28th, 2022, John Raymond Chafin “Papa John” of Treasure Island, Florida ,  loving husband,  father of four and grandfather, passed away at the age of 86.  Born February 3rd, 1936 in Logan, West Virginia, John graduated from Marshall University and eventually moved to Florida for his longstanding career as an accountant at Florida Power Corp.  Counting active duty and the National Guard, John served 20 years in the military.  He retired as a Major.  Over the years, John had a passion for tennis, enjoyed hiking, collecting antiques and had a general love of both the water and the mountains.  Known for his quick wit, fun loving personality, John always aimed to make people feel welcome and genuinely loved spending time with his family.  John was preceded in death by his father William, mother Myrtle, brothers Carl and Harley, sister Louise, and his daughter Cindy.  He is survived by his wife Norma, three children, Johnna Chewning (Ray), Rob Sheets (Maggie) and Jim Sheets (Stella) and three grandchildren Kandace, Riley and Courteney.  There will be a small service for immediate family members only.  The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to your favorite charity.
