Shirley's bravery and strength were an inspiration. She was a rare combination of business savvy, artistic talent and culinary expertise. There wasn't a business challenge, art project or recipe she couldn't tackle and achieve the smartest, most artistic and delicious success. We will miss dinners and deserts with her. She was so much fun to be with and always kind. She'd bake the most delicious cake you'd ever tasted and then humbly say it didn't come out right and she almost threw it away. We will treasure the beautiful artwork she gave us as well as the memories of a tremendously gracious woman who made the world a better place. Love and peace to you Heather and Art. Love, Scott and Terra

How can words describe the feeling of love and wonderment for a friend that was the greatest, funniest, smartest woman you’ve ever met? Also, the best cook, especially her chocolate cherry bread!!! I still can’t believe it that of all the people in the world, I never had any thoughts she would be gone so soon. I moved away in 2007 and lost touch with Shirley long before that and it will always be my biggest regret. You don’t find people like her anymore. We used to laugh and laugh and laugh, some of my best memories have Shirley in them. I love you forever dear wonderful friend.

Shirley before officially becoming a member of our family was already a member. Shirley’s thoughtfulness and sweet ways will be greatly missed. Holidays and special events will have a void without her there as well as those amazingly creative meals and desserts although missed will be talked about forever. God Bless you Shirley. Thoughts and prayers go out to you, Art and Heather. Love you

Shirley Sabin lived life on her own terms…with love, compassion, determination, dignity and a lot of spunk!!! She knew what she wanted and would move Heaven and Earth to make it happen, not only for herself but especially her family and friends.
I was privileged to witness her eternally special mother-daughter bond with Heather. In fact, Heather possesses compassion, strength and resiliency that can be attributed to Shirley.
Shirley Sabin will be missed. Love to all who will continue her legacy through their memories, actions and service to others.

My heart breaks for you Heather and your Dad. The first time I met your mom it was at a training and she was making the most delicious lunches and salads for everyone! When you were in the hospital, she was so amazing at posting updates and her love for you, her strength and calmness through the worst time imaginable were unbelievable. I know she is still watching out for you from above. Much love and many hugs coming to you

All I can say is WOW. Sending love and prayers to Shirley’s family and friends. I never got the opportunity to meet Shirley, but I felt privileged in getting to read all her post as she was standing over and supporting her daughters remarkable journey through a long medical crisis and recovery. I was so profoundly amazed at her strength, tenacity, and gifts in sharing that journey with her daughter and family. I have read more posts from Heather and heard she is a fellow gardener and played such a big part in everyone’s life. I’m sure she will be missed but also has left us with so many gifts. I look forward to reading more about her life and Legacy. What a gift she was and still is. If I can be of any help to the family or friends, all they would have to do is ask. Shirley enjoyed chatting. Heather’s magic hands, Art’s dogs ….. Then she taught herself to hook rugs! Beautiful work, the giraffe, Heather’s motif just to mention a couple. The beets I promised Shirley for her birthday. My thoughts are with you.

I'm so terribly sorry to hear this sad news. I was hoping one of these days to see Shirley (and Art) again. I used to work with Shirley in the early 70's at a travel agency in downtown St. Pete. Lots of fond, fun memories.

Shirley will always be one of the most quietly amazing women I have ever known. Her passion for her family, her love of cooking and crafts, her enjoyment at seeing other's happy are foremost in my memories of her. I also admired the subtle, energetic attributes she possessed: a peaceful spirit, a burning desire to be of service, a deep and powerful love for her husband and Heather. AND the not so subtle things: the way she could stop a train with just a glance across the top of her glasses, the Lioness awakening when her "babies" were threatened, her NO BULLSH*T approach to life. And perhaps most importantly, her confidence and deep understanding of the important things in life and a willingness to share her wisdom. She will be missed by many, loved forever by those closest to her and remembered by all who ever had the good fortune to met her.

I am saddened to hear the world just lost such an amazing lady. Shirley hired me in 1999 and has been a mentor ever since. She taught me so much along the way. I considered her my second mum, as I grew up working by her side until she retired. She was quiet but stern and with just a glance could persuade you differently. She had a heart of gold and truly cared for the people around her. She was dedicated to what she believed in. We have laughed together and cried together (ok maybe I did most of the crying)- she always had my back. Shirley was so unique and special and impacted so many people over the years. She will be missed but never forgotten. My sincere condolences to Heather and Art - big hugs for you both.
