Obituary of Lawrence J. Climan

CLIMAN - Lawrence J., 72, of Palm Harbor, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2006 in St. Petersburg following a boating accident. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, he came to Florida in 2001 from Enfield, Connecticut. He was the son of the late Fred and Mary Climan. He attended the Hartford public schools, graduating from Weaver High School in 1951. He received a BA in Music from the University of Connecticut and MS in education from Central CT State University and did 6th year work at the Hartt College of Music in Hartford. After UConn, he was elected to perform in Western Europe (mostly Germany) with an Army Symphonic Band. Married to the late Edeltraut "Trudy" Climan, he is survived by a son Daniel (Debra) Climan of Enfield, Connecticut; two daughters, Heidi Charette of Ramona, California and Gayle Charette of San Diego, California; brother Martin (Hilda) Climan of West Hartford, Connecticut; two sisters, Edith Handelman of Greenfield, Massachusetts and Ruth (Phillip) Pappas of Clearwater, Florida and two grandchildren, Michael and Brittany Merriam, both of California. Mr. Climan taught in the Enfield, Connecticut public schools for 34 years, being the opening Band Director of Enfield Jr. High, Koscsuszko Jr. High and JF Kennedy Jr. High; returning to elementary instrumental and Vocal Music from 1987-1992. Besides being a member of his local, state and national professional organizations in Music and Education, Larry was a brother of CT chapter of Phi Beta Mu, the national Band Director's Fraternity and was known throughout Connecticut and Western Massachusetts as an educator and musician. Larry was a past member of the Pioneer Valley Yacht Club as well as the Springfield Jewish Community Center; the Sinai Temple and it's Brotherhood in Springfield, Mass. And Temple Tikvah Chadoshoh in Bloomfield, Connecticut. He was a member of Temple B'nai Israel in Clearwater, Florida. Per the family's request, there will be no services at this time. David C. Gross Funeral Home, Beth David Chapel, St. Petersburg is serving the family. The family suggests memorial donations in lieu of flowers, be made to the charity of your choice. Service Information
