Obituary of Melvin Gnage

GNAGE, Melvin Paul Egger, 86 of St. Petersburg. Died Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at Northside Hospital and Heart Institute. He was a seasonal resident from his native Warren, Pennsylvania. While serving in the Navy during World War II, he was assigned to the Gainesville Victory Ship in the Pacific theater of operations. He was a signalman and an expert in aircraft identification. He was recently honored at the World War II Veterans Convocation in Tampa. He was a machinist in the roughing department at the National Forge Company for 42 years in Irvine, PA. He was member of the First Salem United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge 109, life member of the VFW, and a 35 year member of American Legion Post 135, all in Warren. He was a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club in Lakewood, New York He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, reading, dancing, and playing cards. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Doris Knapp Gnage; son, Dr. Lawrence M. Gnage, St. Petersburg; two daughters, Catherine Fresquez, Rancho Cucamonga, CA., Sally Tatum, Northridge, CA; two brothers, Alfred and Harry Gnage, both of Warren, PA; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. There will be no local services. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Warren, Pennsylvania. David C. Gross Funeral Home, 6366 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg is serving the family.
