Obituary of Dean Dewberry

DEWBERRY - Dean, 80, of Gulfport, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at Edward White Hospital in St. Petersburg. He came to Florida in 1941 from his native New Castle, Pennsylvania. He graduated from St. Petersburg High School and served in the US Navy. Following his graduation from the Brooklyn New York Music School, he was a musician in the Big Band Era, having played with Wild Bill Davison, Sam Donahue, Hildegard, Rudy Vallee, Cab Callaway and many others. He was listed in the Jazz Giants book. He was Christian and an ordained pastor who along with his wife, the former Penny Parker, formed Jazz for Jesus in 1977. Survivors include his wife of thirty years, Penny; six sons, Dean of Minnesota; Mike of Massachusetts, Matt of St. Petersburg, William Mosher of Pinellas Park, Marc Mosher of Keystone Heights, Florida and Gary Mosher of Clearwater; one daughter, Anna Stefan of Clearwater; one brother, Dale Dewberry of Palm Harbor, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. An informal gathering of family and friends will be 3 PM on Monday, May 15, 2006 at Veteran's War Memorial Park, 9600 Bay Pines Boulevard. Interment will be at Bay Pines National Cemetery, Bay Pines, Florida. David C. Gross Funeral Homes and Cremation Center, Central Avenue Chapel, St. Petersburg is serving the family.
