Obituary of Rabbi Gerald Alexander Backer

Rabbi Gerald A. Backer, 73 ,of Largo. Passed away Monday, July 10, 2006 at his residence. Born in Wien, Austria, he came to Florida in 1985 from Hartford, Connecticut. He was the owner of The Camera Doctor in Seminole for twenty years, where he repaired photographic equipment and did film transferring. He attended Temple B'nai Israel, Clearwater and was a former member of Congregation Beth Sholom, Gulfport. During WW II, he served in the US Army. Survivors include his wife of forty years, Joanne; one daughter, Bridgette (Alain) Ikonomov and grandson, Maximillien Ikonomov, all of France. Graveside services will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, July 13, 2006 at Chapel Hill Memorial Park, with Rabbi Arthur Baseman, D.D. officiating. Interment will follow. The family suggests memorial donations in lieu of flowers be made to Hospice of the Florida Suncoast, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater, Florida 33760. Service Information
