Obituary of Pearl Fellman

- Pearl (Hechter) Fellman died in St. Petersburg General Hospital, St. Petersburg Florida on October 3, 2006. She was 89. Born in 1916, she was the oldest of five children. She lived in Minneapolis Minnesota until 1988 where in 1946 she co-founded and ran the Unpainted Place (formerly Cedar Lake Furniture) with her husband of 65 years, Sol Fellman who died in February of this year. After a long successful career running a small business that became a Minneapolis landmark, she and her husband moved to Gulfport, Florida in 1988, where she tackled her retirement with the tireless enthusiasm that she invariably applied to everything she undertook throughout her life. Forced to leave her formal education during the Great Depression, she took ardent advantage of the senior program and enjoyed many courses in religion, philosophy and politics at USF in Saint Petersburg. She was honored by the City of Gulfport for her years of volunteer service to the Gulfport Library. She served as the chairperson of her condominium association. In her 80's she learned how to use a personal computer and made many deep friendships as a member of the Town Shores writers workshop. She wrote a number of articles and stories for the Gulfport Gabber, taking great pride in being a published author. Until ill health slowed her down in the past year, she was a crack Scrabble player and an indefatigable crossword puzzle enthusiast She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She never allowed the incidental distances of life to separate her from her family, always finding a way to remain an important and central influence in their lives. She is survived by her three children, Ruth (Fellman) Block of Cambridge, MA. David Fellman of Golden Vally, MN and Carolyn Fellman of Moravia New York and Gulfport Florida. She also leaves four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for December 2006 in Gulfport. Memorial Donations can be made to the Friends of the Gulfport Library.
