Obituary of Arthur D. Pollock

Arthur D. "Chick" Pollock, Jr, 81, of St. Petersburg, formerly of Dunedin. Died December 27, 2006 at home from complications of the disease named after his boyhood idol, Lou Gehrig. Mr. Pollock was born in New York City and moved to Florida in 1955 and to Pinellas County in 1958. He was retired from St. Petersburg College, where he taught English and served as chair of the nationally acclaimed Department of Directed Studies. He graduated from Colgate University where he was captain of the baseball team and played in the 1946 College Baseball AII-Star Game at Fenway Park in Boston. He later played professionally in the New York Yankee organization. He also taught in Virginia and Florida public high schools and coached Dunedin High School to a state baseball championship in 1964. He earned a master's degree from the University of Florida and a Ph.D. from Florida State University. Survivors include his wife Mary; two sons, Art, Dunedin, and Gary, Cincinnati, Ohio; a stepson, Bruce Taylor, St. Petersburg; and five grandchildren.
