Obituary of Gertrude Leon

LEON - Gertrude, 99, of St. Petersburg, passed away Friday, December 29, 2006 at Menorah Manor in St. Petersburg. She came to Lauderhill, Florida in 1985 from her native Chicago, Illinois and moved to St. Petersburg in 2000. She was a singer during the 1950's and 1960's in Chicago. Survivors include her son, James J. Shapiro of Largo; three granddaughters, Jennifer Waters of St. Simons Island, Georgia, Emily Wenzel of Tarpon Springs, Florida, and Heather Howell of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; two grandsons, Ethan and Aiden Waters and her caregiver, Jill Shapiro of Largo. Graveside services will take place 2 P.M. Thursday, January 4, 2007 at Chevra Shomer Haddas Cemetery in Forest Park, Illinois. David C. Gross Funeral Homes, Beth David Chapel, St. Petersburg is serving the family.
