Obituary of Maxine S. Tucker

TUCKER - Maxine S., 99, of Largo, formerly of St. Petersburg, passed away Monday, February 13, 2007 at Pinecrest Place in Largo. She became a seasonal visitor to Florida in 1952 from her native West Frankfort, Illinois and a permanent resident of St. Petersburg in 1958. She later moved to Largo in 2000. She was a high school teacher for the West Frankfort public school system and retired after twenty-six years of teaching. She was a member of First Christian Church in West Frankfort, Illinois and a member of Palm Lake Christian Church in St. Petersburg. She was well known in the golfing circles having served as past president of the Women's Golf Association in West Frankfort, Illinois; past president of the Florida Women's State Golf Association; past president of the Pasadena Yacht & Country Club as well as the Women's Golf Association at Pasadena Yacht & Country Club and past president of the Florida Senior Women's Golf Association. She was a member of the Foster Cup Golf Team for six years and a member of the West Coast Women's Golf Association. She was past Worthy Matron and a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of the American Contract Bridge League; was a certified Duplicate Bridge Director and a Silver Life Master of the Duplicate Bridge Player Association. Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including her caregivers, Bob and Betty Bumpus of St. Petersburg. Mrs. Tucker was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-five years, Guy E. Tucker, her parents, John L. Smith and Jancy (nee Griffin) Smith; three sisters, Gania Haff, Frances Turner and Louise Spence as well as several nephews. Funeral services will take place next week at First Christian Church of West Frankfort. Mrs. Tucker willbe laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Guy E. Tucker, at Tower Heights Cemetery in West Frankfort, Illinois immediately following those services. David C. Gross Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Central Avenue Chapel, St. Petersburg is serving the family.
