Obituary of Vera Plotkin

Vera Plotkin (nee Haas), 82, of Largo, formerly of Clearwater, Palm Harbor and South Miami. Died Sunday, April 29, 2007 at her residence. She was the beloved wife of the late Leo Plotkin, cherished mother of Karen (Michael) Wetmore of St. Louis, MO; Bracha (John) Laster of Vienna, VA.; Ben (Sheila) Plotkin of Short Hills, NJ; Loren (Julie) Plotkin of Edmond, OK; and Amy Plotkin of Coconut Creek; devoted Oma of Daniel Wetmore, Ross Plotkin, Laura Bellows, Abigail Bellows, Ryan Plotkin, Derek Wetmore, Marc Plotkin, Michelle Plotkin, Talia Laster, and Josh Plotkin. Sister of the late Ruth Haas Bornstein, aunt to many nieces and nephews. Born Feb. 4, 1925 in Hamburg Germany, escaped with her family to the US in 1941, and began a new life in Indianapolis, IN. Member of Congregation Beth Shalom, Clearwater (where she was head of the library committee, active member of the Sisterhood, and founder of the Judaica exhibit); North Pinellas Chapter of Hadassah; Brandeis Women. She was a founding member of the Association for Jewish Special Education and an active member of the Association for Retarded Citizens. She supported the state of Israel through her many visits and affiliations. Vera always found the silver lining in what challenges life presented. Funeral service will be 3 PM on Monday, April 30, 2007 at Congregation Beth Shalom, 1325 S. Belcher Rd., Clearwater, with Rabbi David Weizman officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Park, Largo. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Hadassah or Congregation Beth Shalom. The family will be sitting Shiva at the Royal Palms, 200 Lake Avenue N.E., #131, Largo, from April 30th to May 2nd at 7 PM. David C.
