Obituary of David Cohen

Mr. David Cohen, 91, of Five Towns in St. Petersburg, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2007 at Menorah Manor. He was born in Leeds, England and moved to Brooklyn, New York and then to Rockaway, N.Y. While living in New York, Mr. Cohen desperately wanted to serve his country during WW II. However, infantile paralysis kept him from being eligible to enlist. He decided to paint war ships at the Brooklyn Naval Yard to aid in the war efforts. Mr. Cohen also worked eight years as an accountant while in New York. Upon moving to Florida in 1979, Mr. Cohen started his own house painting business which he continued to operate for forty years. He was a mathematical whiz and enjoyed volunteering in the St. Petersburg local elementary schools where he tutored youngsters in math for eight years. He lived at Five Towns where he started a fishing club. He was a member of the New York Club. He and his wife, Minnie were married for nearly sixty years before her passing in August of 2000. Surviving him are his two loving daughters, Arlene Lach of St. Petersburg and Madelon Alter of Center Moriches, New York; four grandchildren, Marcy, Larry, Joshua and Gabrielle and two great-grandchildren, Sophia and Benjamin.
