Obituary of Patricia Aida McCully

Patricia Aida Haslam McCully 83, of St. Petersburg passed away August 24, 2008 at her home of 43 years. Pat was born on August 31, 1924 in St. Paul, Minnesota. She married Edward Joseph McCully (1921-1965) and they had seven loving children, eight wonderful grandchildren, and one great grand son. She was a parishioner of the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle, where all her children matriculated. Pat volunteered and was later employed at Jesuit High School in Tampa, Florida for over 20 years, where her two youngest sons graduated. She volunteered countless hours during her children's school years at Notre Dame Academy, St. Jude's Catholic School, St. Petersburg Catholic High School and Jesuit High School. Pat was always active in the community including the Azalea Bulldogs and Azalea Little League. She was Past President of St. Petersburg Recreation Department Swim Team and past Officer for St. Petersburg Aquatic Swim Team. Pat loved her time with good friends Clarada Pribble, Gladys and John Hamilton and all the St. Petersburg Bridge Club where she served as President, Treasurer and Board Member - the oldest Bridge Club in Florida. She was an accomplished Bridge Player who earned her Silver Life Master. In June 2008, Pat played with Ed Murphy against 5,000 pairs of Bridge players and finished 39th in the world. We, the family, appreciate the love and support our Mom received from the neighbors, friends, and medical personnel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie, her sister Marie, her son Joe, Melita's partner Jo Carol Terry, her grandsons Colin and Keenan. Pat was always appreciative of the love and support of her brother, Jim (Natalie, Knoxville, TN). Surviving children include Melita (Harrisburg, PA) and Meg (Don Esry, Chapel Hill, NC) and sons Jim (Francine, Hilo, HI), Jack of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Gerald (Debbie, Mount Pleasant, SC), and Donald (Julie,Washington, DC) and her daughter-in-law Patrice McCully(Gainesville, FL). Pat deeply loved and cherished each of her grandchildren Keenan, Brian, Sean, Quinn, Tricia, Colin, Austin and Meghan, and her great grandson David. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Pat's name to the Jesuit High School Development Office, 4701 N. Himes Ave; Tampa FL 33614. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10AM Monday, September 1, 2008 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, St. Pete Beach with Fr. Anthony McGinn, principle celebrant. "Ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for all of us, she is surely in a better place; we the living have lost a beacon of optimism and energy.
