Obituary of Vera G. Sherwin

Mrs. Vera G. Sherwein, beloved mother, grandmother & great-grandmother passed away in St. Petersburg Florida in her 96th year on October 30th after a long struggle with cancer. Mrs. Sherwin was a long time resident of Cleveland and University Heights until she retired with her late husband Louis to St. Petersburg. Vera was well known as a devoted, tireless volunteer in the many organizations she served. She was devoted as well to her congregation, Park Synagogue in Cleveland, as a hard working sisterhood member. Vera was a devoted supporter of Zionist causes including Israel Bond drives. In 1970, her efforts were ultimately rewarded with recognition as "Woman of Valor". In 1975, she was honored as "Grandmother Of The Year" by Park Synagogue Sisterhood. Her contributions to her community were just as noteworthy. In 1982, the city of University Heights and its Mayor Beryl Rothschild, recognized her as its "Citizen Of The Year". Mrs. Sherwin is survived by her sons and their spouses: Kenneth and Felice of Fort Worth TX, Gerald and Pamela of St. Petersburg FL; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11:30AM Friday. October 31, 2008 at David C. Gross Funeral Home in St. Petersburg. Further services wil be 10AM Sunday, November 2, 2008 at Berkowitz-Kumin Bookatz Memorial Chapel in Cleveland Ohio. Burial next to her beloved Lou will follow.
