On that date, the St. Petersburg Department will remember our fallen officers with a brief ceremony in the breezeway of Police Headquarters, 1300 First Avenue North. Beginning at midnight, January 24, members of the St. Petersburg Police Honor Guard will lower the flag adjacent to the Police Annex building to half staff. At 7:00 a.m., the Honor Guard will exit the Police Headquarters lobby and lay a memorial wreath next to framed photographs of the two fallen officers in the headquarter's breezeway. At 7:15 a.m. Mayor Bill Foster and Chief of Police Chuck Harmon will appear and have a few brief remarks for the occasion. Loraine Yaslowitz, widow of Officer Jeffrey Yaslowitz, will also be in attendance. At 7:29 a.m., a Police Dispatcher will announce a "moment of silence" on the police radio which is the time one year ago when officers on the scene advised radio of "officers down" and "shots fired." Traffic on 1st Avenue North will diverted at 13th Street beginning at about 7:15 a.m. for about 15 minutes until the ceremony's conclusion. It is suggested that members of the media interested in covering the ceremony arrive at about 6:45 a.m. Parking along the north side 1st Avenue North near the Police Headquarters should be available.
