John Kent Cleghon was born on January 31, 1927, in Lakeland, FL to William Kent and Callie (Green) Cleghon and passed on April 25, 2023, at Brookside Hospice in Palm Harbor, FL.
John served in the US Navy and Navy Reserves for 38 years where he was stationed on the USS Cread, USS Julius A. Raven, USS Barr and USS Newman. He was a firefighter for the City of St. Petersburg for 20 years, retiring in 1970. John then worked for Pinellas County Parks Department as Chief Lifeguard at Fort De Soto Park for 12 years.
John was a Master Mason at the Gulf Beach Masonic Lodge No. 291, a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Egypt Shriners, as well as Eastern Star. John was also a member of the Madeira Beach American Legion.
John was predeceased by his wife Betty and stepsons Michael Kennedy and Kenny Kennedy. He is survived by stepson Glenn Kennedy, son John (Charlotte) Brisendine, daughter Marianne Felix, granddaughters Krystal Kennedy-Knievel and Shawn Kennedy (Helvey) Johnson, and great granddaughters Kylie Marsh and Hannah Marsh.
A Masonic funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Gulf Beach Masonic Lodge, No. 291 at 14020 Marguerite Dr, Madeira Beach, FL 33708 at 6:30 PM.
