Obituary of Kitty Gehres

Kathryn Isabelle Gehres died on March 30 2023. She was born on December 29, 1926 
to her parents Ada Estella Cline and Kenneth Earnest Fike. Kathryn Gehres was known 
by all her friends and family as Kitty. She had a very eventful life with many accomplishments. Kitty Gehres completed a Bachelor of Social Work Degree from Youngstown State University and guided many people through the system at Greenville Hospital. Kitty loved the outdoors and camping. She was the Girl Scout leader for all her kids and Day Camp Administrator at Camp Rowland in Greenville, Pa. She received a Leadership Award in 1972 for her work with the Girl Scouts. Kitty Gehres was a Fiber Artist who loved spinning and weaving wool. She and her husband Lester built and maintained several looms in their Fredonia home. 
She produced many textile projects including artworks, rugs and scarves. The Spinning Demonstrations she gave at Historical Reenactment Festivals were transformative. 
One of her handcrafted scarves was featured in Anna Sui's Fall 2000 Fashion Show. 
Kitty loved playing cards. She liked to win! Her favorite restaurant was Dairy Queen and 
she always liked her coffee with whole milk NOT creamer. After moving to Florida in 2012 Kitty enjoyed taking the St Pete Trolley to Pass-a-Grill where she enjoyed the beach and 
the Butter Pecan Ice Cream at The Hurricane. Kitty was active in Fredonia Presbyterian Church and loved the Bible. She studied and became a Lay Minister. Kitty Gehres married her husband Lester LeRoy Gehres in 194 7. He died in 2005 at age 86. They voted in every election. Kitty is survived by Marge & Wayne Coppins Sr., Betty Schaub & Michael Cecka, Julie Hunt & Jon Tindall, Paul LeRoy Gehres, Angela & Andy Roberts, Wayne Jr. & lngie Coppins, Lester Hunt, Maddie & Ben Roberts and Sofia & Simone Coppins. Kitty Gehres 
was loved and she will be missed by all who knew her. 
She made the world a funner place to be.
