Jan Wittman

Obituary of Jan Wittman

Jeanette Hannah Wittman ("Jan") was born August 13, 1944, at home in Darmstadt, Indiana, to Bruno and Madeline Wittman. She passed from our lives on September 13, 2022. Jan is survived by a brother, Louis Wittman; a sister, Judith Wellin; a nephew, Brian Wellin; a nephew, Eric Wellin, and his children, Elizabeth and Rebecca; and a nephew, John Wellin, his wife, Denise Wellin, and their children Alexander and Adrianna. Jan will be laid to rest at Our Savior Lutheran Church in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Jan was a nurse throughout her career. Her associate, Dr. Brian Elliott, recalls her nickname, "Dr J.", which was sort of copied from the famous basketball player. But it just fit with her first name initial and that she was probably often the doctor in charge. He recalls: "A funny story that comes to mind is one day I walked past one of my exam rooms and she was on the floor with towels mopping up water that was all over the floor. I had recently brought in some artificial plants for the exam room, and apparently, she had been watering them for several days and the water finally spilled over. I didn’t let her forget that one for a long time. Our patients loved her and knew that if they wanted to get something done in a hurry they would go to her rather than anybody else."

Jan was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend to so many. She retired as a beloved nurse who cared for and helped many patients in her career.  While she was a no nonsense lady, she had a huge heart, she was super fun, and she had an amazing and infectious laugh. She was the best friend our grandmother Terry Morlock ever had and cared for her until her passing. She was an amazing Aunt and friend to Terry's daughter Shirley Marshall and Shirley's children, Tracy, Shawn, Tami and Robert Marshall in addition to being a great Aunt to Tami's children Christopher and Miranda, Tracy's daughter Melia, Shawn's children Ashley and Kalieb, and Robert's children Lorena and Milo.

Jan will be forever missed, and her death leaves an empty place in our hearts. Her life touched us in such amazing ways, and those memories, her love, laugh, and light will live on in all of us for the rest of our days.
