Obituary of Grete Tova Gross

Grete Tova Gross 87 of Largo passed away June 9, 2022 at home surrounded by her family. Grete was born October 10, 1934 in Montreal, Quebec, the only child of Otto Ernst Jensen and Petra Caroline Hansen Jensen. After completing her formal education, she moved to Chicago IL where she worked as a stewardess for American Airlines. It was there she met and later married her husband, Mel Gross z”l. They moved to St. Pete Beach in 1958, and later settled in the Azalea – Eagle Manor neighborhood of West St. Petersburg. In 1979, Grete played an integral and supportive role in the formation of David C. Gross Funeral Home in St. Petersburg, where she worked for several years as office administrator.  She later joined her good friend Sarah Kleinmetz as the co-owner of Sarah-Grete Clothes Friends in the Carriage Trade Plaza on South Dale Mabry in Tampa. She enjoyed playing golf, tennis and snow skiing in Breckenridge Colorado. She was a former member of Temple Beth-El and its Sisterhood.

Survivors include her loving children, sons David C. (Pati) Scott A. (Maribel) Robert D. (Linda); daughter Susie Gross DeHaven; beloved grandchildren Michael (Mandi), Steven (Ashley), Dane, Jensen, Logan, Jordan, Devin and Tristan, and cherished great-grandchildren Emma and Merit.

Private services have been planned. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 16, 2022 from 4-6 PM at the Bayou Club, 7979 Bayou Club Blvd. Largo.
