Was in his Civil Procedure class in my first year of law school 50 years ago. I never had a professor who made you think so much in class as Howard Fink did.
When I left his class each time, my brain had experienced
the equivalent of a stress test. He was a master in causing law students to think through all aspects of a problem.
His passion for the law was also communicated well to the student. Mark Frasure

What a great guy. 43 years ago I learned how to think from Prof Fink in 1L Civil Procedure. He was the best law prof, and he inspired and taught things that still stay with me. He wore Earth shoes and a suit, not hip but very cool. His was the only class in law school I attended 100% -- the pace, intensity, substance, and curiosity were unparalleled -- and for Civil Procedure of all things ??!! To this day I'm more inclined to listen carefully, speak clearly, be more prepared and get to the point and be a better person because of Prof. Fink -- or as we called him then "The Man." My condolences to his family. Dan Sponseller OSU Law '81

As a 1L I attended Professor Fink's civil procedure case in the 1995-96 school year at OSU. The description that students generally "feared and revered" him is apt. When he used the Socratic Method, he was never cruel but his dialogue with students was sharp enough to make them want to be more prepared the next time he called upon you. For me it was much more revere than fear though. After the initial shock of being called on and challenged with successive questions about a legal issue wore off, I appreciated learning not only the substance of civil procedure from him, but more importantly, how to conduct oneself in front of a jurist on a contested issue. In my OSU law experience, Professor's Fink's class stood at the top as the best course to help a 1L learn how to prepare for a court hearing and conduct oneself before the court. I noticed Professor's Fink's passing a few days ago and wanted to convey my appreciation for his teaching and the positive effect he had on my career. Even today some 27 years later, the first thing I look to when I have a civil procedure issue is the treatise he authored with Professors Greenbaum and Wilson, two other excellent professors. I am sorry for your loss. Sincerely, Keith O'Korn

Howard and I first became faculty colleagues in 1971, at Ohio State, and we have been close friends ever since then. He was a wonderful human being. My wife, Ann, and I have been very fortunate to have been able to have Howard and Sondra as our friends for all these years. He will be greatly missed by all of us who have had the privilege of knowing him. Bruce Jacob

I first met Howard while teaching at Stetson Law School in St. Petersburg, Florida. Howard had come to visit during one of his "retirements" and teach while I was away on a visit elsewhere, and even used my office for part of that year, I think. We met again a few years later when I visited at OSU, and frequently met at various professional meetings. A wonderful man. Such good stories. Please accept my condolences. Best wishes, Mark Brown

I worked with Professor Fink for the past 9 years at Moritz. He was a lovely man, and so great to work with! From sending us oranges every winter from Florida, to sharing his beloved football tickets, he was a warm and generous man! Sincerest condolences to his family and friends. He will be missed very much!

Howard was so kind and supportive of our son Daniel, who suffered from a neurodegenerative disease and died in 2018. Dan audited Howard's seminar on Law, History, and Philosophy a few years before that. The two of them shared a great enthusiasm for that subject. Howard lives on in my memory along with Daniel--forever discussing the meaning of law with great fervor and joy. My condolences to all of Howard's family. Debby Merritt
