Obituary of Patricia M. Taylor

Patricia Meneely Taylor, 82, of Oak Ridge, NJ, and South Pasadena, FL, was welcomed home into Paradise on February 13, 2021. Patsy was a warrior in her 10 ½ year fight with ovarian cancer, today she laid down her armor in her courageous battle, always staying positive and having hope. She encouraged everyone around her with her contagious smile and laughter.

Hers was a beautiful and well lived life overflowing with integrity, honesty humility, a genuine pure heart and the shining light of Jesus. In addition, she was a stubborn ol’ girl, strong minded and determined.

She hated to cook and thankfully she rarely did. She was most comfortable outdoors and in shorts, a tee shirt, wool socks and sneakers but also favored flannel shirts and jeans. She would rather mow the lawn than clean the house. She loved sports and played a lot of them, including softball, racquetball and pickle ball. She also bowled and golfed. She played dominos and mahjong. She loved the Lord and her church. She was a member of St. Vincent’s Episcopal Church where she attended Wednesday Healing Service, Bible Study and Sunday Eucharist. She volunteered at the church thrift store and at Pasadena Fundamental Elementary School, both in St. Petersburg. She also attended St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church in Oak Ridge, NJ. Her favorite hymns were “In the Garden” and “There is something about that Name”.

Patsy was a true beach bum and loved the Jersey Shore and the sands of St. Pete Beach. Her favorite food was a hot dog and tator tots. She loved to eat at any greasy spoon diner she could find, especially if there was an outside table and umbrella!  She never wore make up, never drank, smoked or swore. She loved to laugh and found humor in everything. Any and every one she met immediately became her friend which blossomed into lifelong relationships.

She had a strong work ethic; she loved her job as a rural route carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 27 years, delivering in Randolph, NJ.

She started dating Ben Taylor when she was just 13 years old and they were wed on October 5, 1957, and they enjoyed a wonderful life together for 62 years, until Ben’s death on March 15, 2014. She adored her family which included three children, Brad Taylor (deceased), Bruce Taylor (his wife JoAnne) and Susan Taylor Corona, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In keeping with Patsy’s wishes there will be a closed casket visitation at Scanlan Funeral home from 10:00 – 11:30 on Monday, February 22nd, 2021. The funeral home is located at 781 Newark Pompton Turnpike, Pompton Plains, NJ. Per Patsy’s request please wear flannel shirts and jeans. Due to COVID, her memorial service will also be held at Scanlan immediately following the visitation.
