Obituary of Joseph W. Bullers, Jr.

JOSEPH W. BULLERS, Jr., 90, died on 1 February 2021. Joe was born in Hazen, PA.  In 1952 Joe graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science Degree and was commissioned into the Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant. Early in Joe’s 25-year Air Force career he received Top Secret Clearance allowing him to serve in numerous positions to include working for the Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon. Joe was assigned to the Strategic Air Command (SAC) stationed in Warrensburg, MO. Joe was presented with 2 of America’s top military medals. After completing 100 missions Joe received the Distinguished Flying Cross for “Heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in an aerial flight.” Joe was also awarded the Legion of Merit (LOM) for “Exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements in aerial flight.” After leaving the Air Force Joe worked for E-Systems in St. Petersburg, FL, Mitre Corporation in Stuttgart, Germany, and NATO’s Supreme Headquarters for Allied Forces in Brussels, Belgium where he served as a department head. Joe & Ellen returned to St. Petersburg in 1991. Joe is survived by his wife of 39 years Ellen Bullers, his 4 children Cesily Rouser, Joseph Bullers III, Janelle Scherban and Rochelle Murray and stepson Bart Blackwell, 10 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. The care of Colonel Bullers and his family has been entrusted to David C. Gross Funeral Home in St. Petersburg.
