Donald Noyes

Obituary of Donald Noyes

Donald Whitney Noyes was born June 1, 1930 in Worcester, MA and died June 21, 2020, St. Petersburg Florida.  He is survived by his wife, Diane Chavonne Noyes, daughters Victoria Noyes Weaver (Charlie) and Katherine Noyes Milligan (Tony) and his two older brothers, Phillips Noyes and Edward Noyes as well as his two former wives, Joanna Poor and JP Decker and his step daughter Paula Lawall .  He was preceded in death by his son, Donald Whitney Noyes, Jr and his sister Elizabeth Noyes Church.

He led a very full life, joining the Merchant Marines when he was 17 (until his mother found out and brought him home), then the army after graduating high school, serving for two years.  He graduated from Bryant College, raised a family, worked 30 years for Hallmark Cards, traveled abroad, married 3 times to strong independent women, and generally loved life.  He was a born salesman with a true gift of gab.  He loved to eat, drink and tell stories.  He loved to read and was generous about sharing his books with anyone.  He was an excellent poker player and enjoyed shooting pool and playing poker at his living facility.  He was an active member of Treasure Island Civitan (serving as a past president) and was a founding member of the Treasure Island Curling Team (yes, they had a curling team!).    He was always proud to tell you that Bette Davis babysat him when she was in high school.  He survived a massive stroke in 1998 that impaired his ability to speak but he was resourceful in developing alternative ways to communicate and continued to live an active and happy life.

He made friends wherever he went and will be greatly missed.

Per his wishes he was cremated and a memorial service will be scheduled when health concerns ease. Please check back to this site for future update of service time or feel free to add your e-mail address to a tribute post and the family will contact you directly once date and time are known.

The care of Mr. Noyes and his family has been entrusted to David C. Gross Funeral Home in St. Petersburg.
