Richard "Doc" Bolvin
May 23, 1930 - June 19, 2020
“Doc” liked his coffee hot and black… a bit like motor oil.
The Community Awareness Division had to keep sugar and cream stocked because most days he would get to work first and make it how he liked it.
Motor Oil… It must've kept Doc going throughout his 9000 hours of volunteering! (!!!WOW!!!)
Road Patrol Volunteer Richard “Doc” Bolvin worked at his pleasure for over 25 years here at SPPD.
He was an Army Veteran and then a dentist in Seminole during his younger and working years. When he retired, he wanted to keep busy so he volunteered in the Crime Analysis Section with data entry.
In 1996 the department created the Volunteer Road Patrol and Doc was one of the first to join the action.
Since then, Doc was dedicated to assisting officers on the street. He directed traffic around accidents, dealt with abandoned vehicles and found property, and issued parking warnings and tickets for handicap and fire lane violations.
Doc was always neatly pressed, cap on to keep the sun off his face, and ready to go with his radio and notebook. He was respected among the troops and loved knowing he could really help them.
Sadly, Doc died on Friday, June 19, 2020.
He just turned 90 years old on May 23rd.
His life and commitment to service and his community was a Blessing to us, the City, and the Pasadena Community Church food bank.
His constant support, great stories and clever jokes are missed by everyone who knew him.
Rest In Peace, Doc.
