Joann, Toni and Pete
I am sorry for not reaching out sooner. I had heard about your mother’s passing and cleaning up my emails I realized that I had not written to you. I have such fond memories of Aunt Betty and Uncle Irv. Sitting at their table in St. Pete and drinking homemade plum wine and eating eggplant salad. When I was younger, I played my fair share of shuffleboard with you incessantly shirtless father. Your mother was so warm and loving and always interested in what was happening in my life. It is indeed sad to see a generation pass on, but that generation will live on through their progeny (I guess that it how it happens). I am happy that Betty was able to be so close to Toni and visa versa. She certainly was not cheated of life… a loving husband, beautiful family and nearly a century of experience.
She will be remembered very lovingly.

Betty and my mother, Mary, were best friends when I was growing up in Syosset, New York. Through Betty, my father met her dear husband, "Irv," a fellow scientist and they both hit it off. Though Betty and Mom were later separated geographically, they remained close in their hearts their entire lives. One of my fondest pleasures was reuniting them a few years ago in Clearwater on a beautiful, sunny day at the Don Cesar. Both Betty and my mother cried when lunch was over and they each said their good-byes. I remember Betty well as a sweet, loving and grounded woman. I know I speak for my mother in offering condolences to her entire family. My her soul rest in peace. Peter Djinis

When I was 16 years old, I had an art club in the basement of the Euclid Avenue Temple in Cleveland, Ohio. When the war broke out, the temple lost teachers to the armed forces. Libby Braverman was the education director and said if I could teach art I could teach first grade. Betty was teaching in the room next to me and that is how I met Betty before I ever met my husband, Merle Rogen. Merle was Betty's first cousin. Betty's mother was one of Harry Rogen's (Merle's father) five sisters. One of his sisters was the mother of Jerry Lawrence who wrote Inherit the Wind and Aunty Mame.
Every Wednesday night for the last few years I would call Betty at 8 PM and we would talk about old times. I will miss our conversations, Betty. I love you.
