Obituary of Barbara Ragsdale

Barbara Winkles Ragsdale, 2/17/45. Barbara was a positive thinker, extraordinary woman, loving mother and trusting friend to many. She grew up in Fountain City. She graduated with her masters degree from the University of Tennessee. She spent the first half of her career as a US Federal Agent and her second half as a college educator. One of her fondest memories was teachrg a group of young Asian women and experiencing their culture and personalities. Barbara loved to garden and her yard was designated a “Backyard Wildlife Habitat”. In her later years she worked at the Office of Aging in Knoxville and then moved to St. Petersburg FI where she was a Hospice volunteer.Barbara loved animals especia ly dogs and rescued many pets. She was very generous and giving and sponsored third world children for most of her life. In her later years her aspiration was to be a hero. She proved to be brave and courageous suffering the pain of rheumatoid arthritis for over 12 years. Her last hoorah was treating everyone in her nursing home to a Popeye’s dinner that proved to oe a big hit for all.

Survived by her mother, Doris Winkles, her daughter, Alisa Daniel, her two brothers , Billy Winkles and Carl Winkles. Additional survivors are her best friends in life, Anne Koehler & Adrienne Levering. Also survived by her caregiver and friend, Vira So omon.

The care of Barbara and her family have been entrusted to David C. Gross Funeral Home in St. Petersburg.
