Obituary of Robert I. Sann

Robert Ives Sann (Bob), 89, of Clearwater, Florida passed away September 23, 2019. Born and raised in New York City, he then moved with his wife, Myra, to Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, where they lived for 40 years. Bob and Myra later retired to Clearwater to be near their family. He graduated from the City College of New York with a Bachelor’s degree, and earned his Masters and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from NYU. Throughout his long career as a Mechanical Engineer, he worked for companies such as Bendix, Curtiss-Wright, and Howe Richardson. While at these companies, he worked on many projects for the NASA space program. He also was a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology, Manhattan College, New Jersey Institute of Technology, and the City College of New York.

Among his many interests, Bob had a passion for New Orleans Dixieland Jazz, and he was an avid guitar and banjo player. He played in several local community jazz bands. A member of Temple B’nai Israel in Clearwater, he was a beloved member of the Temple Choir.

His humor, kindness, and beautiful smile will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Myra; son and daughter-in-law Ronald and Debra Sann; daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Mitchell Miller; daughter, Melissa Sann; and grandchildren, Stefanie, Evan, Samantha, Shayna and Aden.

Robert's funeral was held at Riverside Cemetery in Saddle Brook, NJ on Wednesday, September 25, 2019. The family suggests donations to the charity of your choice.
