Obituary of Abraham Thaler

Abraham Thaler passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 in Clearwater, FL. He was 96. Born in New York City he lived in Cranford, New Jersey for 10 years, Iselin, New Jersey for 40 years, and Tennessee for 3 years before moving to Clearwater, Florida 5 years ago. He held a degree in both Chemical and Electrical Engineering from New York University. He served in the U.S. Army and worked on the Manhattan Project for five years, helping to develop the atomic bomb that ended World War II. He also served at the national nuclear laboratories at Los Alamos and Alamogordo, NM., and Oakridge TN. He went on to become a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine with a degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He began his medical practice first in Cranford, N.J. for 10 years, where he also served as town physician, and then in Iselin, N.J. for over 40 years, before retiring 16 years ago. He was one of the first doctors to employ hypnosis in his practice, before it was even a recognized treatment. He has hypnotized over 20,000 people as part of his medical practice. He was a founding doctor of Union Hospital, Union, N.J. and was named a "Dr. Emeritus" with permanent privileges by JFK hospital in Edison, N.J.. He also held a license as a stock broker. He was a founding member of Temple Beth El Mekor Chayim of Cranford, and a member of the Knights of Pythias, Roth Lodge of Essex and Union Counties. He was also active with the Chabad in Iselin. He was married to the late Zenith Thaler and leaves surviving 3 children, Ted (Andrea) Thaler of Nashville, TN., Sandy Thaler (Steven) Gerber of Westfield, N.J., and Jeffrey Thaler of Clearwater, FL. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, David, James, Rebecca, Laurie and Sarah, and 5 great-grandchildren. Services will take place in New Jersey on July 3, 2015. with burial to follow in Montefiore Cemetery in New York. David C.
