Obituary of Beverly Jane Wright Meister

Beverly Jane Wright Meister, 94, passed away peacefully on the evening of February 18, 2016, at Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation, Boone, NC. Beverly, known as "Bev" to her family and friends, was born on April 13, 1921, to the late Clyde and Mildred Wright in Elyria, Ohio. She graduated from Elyria High School in 1939 and attended Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. Beverly also attended the Oberlin Business School and University of Akron to become a certified teacher. She married her college sweetheart, the late Herbert Meister, in 1943, and they raised two sons together. Beverly was a loving daughter, niece, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She taught piano lessons in her home and bookkeeping and typing classes at a local high school in Oberlin, Ohio before moving to Troy, Michigan in the early 1970s and later to Oldsmar, Florida in 1978. In 1987, she and her husband purchased a vacation home in Blowing Rock, NC. In 1993, she became a year-round resident of the High Country. In 2000, she moved to nearby Boone, NC to be closer to her family. A devoted Christian, she was a past member of the First Congregational United Church in Elyria, Ohio, the Heritage United Methodist Church in Clearwater, Florida, the Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church in Blowing Rock, NC, and most recently the Boone United Methodist Church in Boone, NC. Known as a "social butterfly" throughout her life, she enjoyed hosting friends at her home. She also loved playing bridge, working on puzzles, reading novels, and attending local musical performances, particularly those of her youngest son, Scott. In addition to volunteering at local hospitals, she knitted and donated hundreds of newborn pink and blue baby caps for children born at Watauga Medical Center. She especially loved her annual summer vacations on Lake Dubourne in Ontario, Canada with family and lifelong friends at the Ohio Wesleyan Battlepoint Association in Blind River, Ontario. Beverly is survived by her two sons, Rev. David Meister and wife, Denise, of South Haven, MI and Dr. Scott Meister and wife, Jan, of Boone, NC; five grandchildren, Ehren Meister and wife, Nicole, of Raleigh, NC, Gretchen Meister Kelly and husband, Ryan, of Durham, NC, Kristan Meister of Charlotte, NC, Michael Meister of Three Rivers, Michigan and Dawn Meister of Battle Creek, Michigan; and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Meister, and her aunt Ruth Wright Beutel and Uncle Hugh Wright. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge and thank the staff at Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation and Appalachian Brian Estates for their attention and care to Beverly as her health declined. A private family memorial service will be held and entombment will occur alongside her late husband at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens in Palm Harbor, Florida.
