Michael R. Mega

Michael R. Mega, 90, of Tierra Verde, Florida, formerly of Linden, NJ and McAdoo, PA passed away January 21, 2023, surrounded by his family. Mike was born to Michael and Anna (Stepalovitch) Mega on August 10, 1932.

Mike honorably served his country in the Korean War. After returning to the US, he met his soulmate, Marie. They were married on July 20, 1957, at Our Lady of Grace Church in Hazelton, PA and enjoyed 61 years together. He was known for his signature blue flannel shirt, baseball cap, and pockets full of candy. He loved hunting and fishing, the outdoors, photography, dancing the jitterbug, and tinkering in his garage with anything broken or unbroken. In the 1970s, he served as a youth baseball coach, youth rifle team parent, and CYO advisor. He was very active in St. Theresa the Child of Jesus Church in Linden, NJ, St. Agnes Church in Clark, NJ and later, St. John Vianney Church in St. Pete Beach, FL. He served as a Eucharistic minister, Holy Name member and treasurer, usher, and a past member of the Knights of Columbus. Together with his wife, Mike was always willing to lend a hand at church events and fundraisers from cooking trays of pierogies to setting up tables at fashion shows and boardwalks, and compassionately serving the ladies of the Catholic Daughters.

Mike was predeceased by Marie in 2018 and their son, Michael Joseph in 1960. He is survived by his son Robert J. Mega (Peggy); daughter Donna M. Holup (John); three granddaughters, Amanda and Nikki Holup, and Maria Mega; grandson Robert M. Mega; sisters Shirley Leonard (Robert) and Dolly Frenchik (Robert) and their families; and brother-in-law Joseph Cusatis. He is also survived by the dedicated nursing team and staff of Grand Living at Lakewood Ranch, FL.

A Mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on February 6, 2023, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, St. Pete Beach, FL. Interment will follow at Sarasota National Cemetery. David C. Gross Funeral Homes is serving the family.
